2009 Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

GM Media Release
2 October 2008

A distinctive character is offered at appealing conditions: Opel presents the third member of the Insignia family, the Sports Tourer, at the Paris Motor Show (October 4-19). The station wagon variant glistens not only with the superb technology of its sedan counterparts and a unique design: Its price, too, looks attractive. The Insignia Sports Tourer starts at 23,990 euros on the entry-level model (1.6 ECOTEC gasoline engine with 115 hp). It can be ordered immediately and will be in showrooms this spring.

This solidly places the Insignia Sports Tourer in the lower price segment of its class, even though it comes with extensive standard equipment including air conditioning, CD-Radio, cruise control, ESP and traction control. For just 1,290 euros more than the notchback variant, the Sports Tourer offers a large and flexible load area as well as an eye-catching rear design. In addition to the entry-level version, the Edition, Sport and top-of-the-line Cosmo variants also are available. With the Edition trim the navigation system is standard, and all versions can be customised with a variety of premium packages.

The Insignia Sports Tourer joins its sedan sister models in integrating new technologies for higher safety, better driving dynamics and ergonomics. Highlights include the Opel Eye camera system, AFL+ headlamps (Adaptive Forward Lighting), Adaptive 4×4 all-wheel-drive and the FlexRide mechatronic chassis and the orthopedically optimised sport seats available for both driver and front passenger. Special equipment features for the station wagon include the power tailgate with programmable opening height, level control, and the FlexOrganiser load area management system.

The Insignia Sports Tourer has been designed as a stand-alone model, as clearly demonstrated by its distinctive bodywork and doors aft of the B-pillar. Designers gave the rear a confident swing by pulling the “wraparound” tailgate far into the flanks and accentuating it with distinctive, fully integrated tail lights. This dynamic look encloses an interior that offers ample space for five occupants and a luggage compartment volume of 540 litres.

Opel presents two new engines for the Insignia family with the Sports Tourer: the newly developed 2.0-litre BiTurbo diesel with 190 hp and the 1.6-litre turbo gasoline unit with 180 hp. The total of five gasoline engines range from 115 to 260 hp, while the four diesels offer power outputs from 110 to 190 hp. All engines already meet the future Euro 5 emissions standard.

Like the sedan versions, Opel offers an especially environmentally friendly ecoFLEX variant of the Insignia Sports Tourer. The Insignia ecoFLEX with the 160 hp, 2.0 CDTI ECOTEC engine reflects Opel’s performance without compromise strategy.
